At OMLogic you don’t just work… you own your work - Take of an SMRE

on Jan 31, 2013

In my mind I still hear voices of my peers from fifth grade explaining how they all wanted to become doctors, lawyers, teachers, basketball players, or someone famous. That was not me. Although I had not decided on the career I wanted to pursue, I did know that I wanted to make something of myself and something big.

Becoming a Social Media Research Executive has not always been a something I wanted to do with my life. I actually wanted to go to a photography school, but because of this ‘What society will say?’ phobia, I thought why not major in something else.

Now-a-days, it is not easy to choose a career. Hundreds of students compete with one another for positions in various professions which are not so many as there are applicants. After being here for 7 months, I would like to choose Social Media Marketing as my career. There are several reasons that make it an interesting job.

Being a Social Media Marketer means to learn more. If we work for a real estate client, it is important to read about real estate terms and tastes; if we work for a lifestyle brand, it is again important to read about its terms and tastes to make the content & execution interesting for our brand followers and customers. Just like a good teacher often reads many other books apart from course books before preparing the final lecture, we read a lot many things and incorporate them in our communication for a brand to make customers and fans admire the brand and love it.

Being an SMRE not just exposes us to immense knowledge, but also works as a motivation to improve our powers of expression. It gives us a chance to research, learn and experiment. With a lot of knowledge at hand, we surely get looked upon as well-informed individuals ;)

I think these are the reasons why I love being what I am – a Social Media Marketer.

It has been 7 months since I have been doing this and I love peeping into the psyche of other human beings and framing communication such that it may stir them. I know there’s a lot that I need to learn to improve my work performance and myself. With the kind of environment and colleagues I have at OML, it’s surely going to be a fun journey :)
