Why Your Brand Should Care About Foursquare

To put it in simple words, it is an application which we use on our smartphones to check-in at places we visit and share it with our friends.

According to the latest stats, the site has 50 million unique visitors per month; out of which only 40 million are members of the site and the other 10 million non-members are visiting the website to gain information about different places. Now, that’s a powerful statistic that your brand should care about!

We will not talk about its often-talked about features which you can find elsewhere. Instead, let’s focus on a few reasons why your brand should make its presence (felt) on Foursquare and how to do it best.

1.      It’s no more an alien platform; many top brands are using it. Claim your listings NOW!

To get started, create a business page for your brand and claim all your locations, where you are physically located. As stated in Foursquare’s Wikipedia page, the most popular company page on Foursquare is that of MTV. The Oberoi, New Delhi has also created their Foursquare page and are very active on the platform. You will also find many other brands belonging to different industries. Is this not motivation enough to get your listing NOW?

2.      It gives you a mechanism to monitor foot traffic.

Foursquare lets you see and analyse the foot traffic you are receiving. You can download the report from your page’s dashboard and keep a record of people checking-in to your different locations. So, you can monitor which of your locations is performing well.

Besides all this, this July, Foursquare has rolled out self serve ads for businesses but currently it is available for select businesses around the world. While promoted updates feature was released in July, 2012.

3.      It offers you different ways to engage your customers

Whenever a person checks-in at your place, it adds +1 to your total check-ins, BUT the conversation doesn’t end here. There are different ways to entice them and have them become your loyal customers.

  • Honestly, the article looks forced attempt. There is no solid case study/example to back the arguments. 50 million is world specific or India specific? If world specific, how many in India? If few Indian brands on it, why should i as a brand should be there? Just that they are there is not a suitable reason. What ROI will i get as a brand, that is the question. Any example regarding ROI from Foursquare in India? What different ways to engage customers? Not mentioned again! More information is needed. Hope you put more meat in your next article.

  • As mentioned in the last line, engagement tips will be shared next week and as far as ROI is concerned I would say don’t jump on this platform to measure ROI only. Social media is more about branding of the company and to address your customers’ queries and concerns, and it is one of the platforms where you can do so. 50 million is world specific. Do come next week to know about different engagement ideas.
