TIT&S BhiwaniSocial Media is undoubtedly the latest kid on the block in the world of marketing. Today, the marketers know the edge it brings to the established brands as well as those in making. But, what does social media mean to those who are on the verge of starting their career? Do they really know about it as a viable career opportunity? Our visit to Technological Institute of Textile & Sciences, Bhiwani turned out to be a real life experience in this regard when we visited the campus to create awareness about social media.

The day began with the seminar ‘Be Social – The Indian Way’, where students were told about the power of online media. The session was attended by final year students and the alumni of the esteemed college. The auditorium with a seating capacity of 250 was jam packed with students, professors and alumni looking forward to what was coming next. The session unfolded with an introduction to Social Media and how one can influence people and win them as friends. Almost everyone was unanimously nodding to the facts being presented about what is the human behavior like when we want to win friends in person. And, then came the point that whatever Dale Carnegie preached about winning friends in person also holds true for winning friends/fans/customers over social media as well.

In simple words, the role of social media where brands can make people advocate their products and services by interacting with them in an interesting and humorous manner, was explained. Before the next session, the audience were asked some questions and those who answered them right were gifted some freebies. The second session was about how social media can help an individual fetch the right job and how they can network over various social platforms. The students were amazed to hear how Facebook, LinkedIn and various such other platforms can be used to build their career.

Post lunch started the process of campus hiring where all those students who wanted to start their career in social media enrolled with their resumes. The students were briefed about the job-profile and almost 40 engineering and management students appeared for the interview where they shared their dreams and aspirations and what they wanted to do in life. A large number of quality candidates were screened for stepping in to social media and hopefully many will soon be a part of the team at OMLogic.

Overall, it turned out that young minds need to be told more about what social media can do for them and what social media does as a part of the marketing mix of various brands and companies. A little more awareness could really bring in more talent to the social media industry.
